AERATION & DECOMPACTION
ESSENTIAL PRACTICES FOR GRASS HEALTH

GRASS HEALTH STARTS UNDER THE GROUND
Soil decompaction and aeration are two essential services in the maintenance of sports turf, but each has different objectives and methods. Decompaction aims to alleviate soil compaction, a common problem on fields that are frequently used, such as for games and training. This process is carried out with equipment such as the Verti-Drain, which drills into the soil and breaks up compacted layers, allowing better penetration of air, water and nutrients. Decompaction is especially important to improve soil drainage, reduce water accumulation and provide a firmer and safer base for root growth.
Aeration focuses on increasing air circulation in the soil, promoting oxygenation of the roots. Although the process also involves drilling the soil, aeration removes pieces of soil, creating small holes or channels, allowing air to reach the roots directly. Aeration is crucial to improving the health of the field, as it facilitates the absorption of nutrients and promotes recovery after heavy use, especially in areas with high compaction.
