FERTILIZATION & PULVERIZATION

ESSENTIAL PRACTICE FOR GRASS HEALTH

GRASS HEALTH STARTS UNDER THE GROUND

Seasonal fertilization and pulverization play a key role in maintaining a healthy, high-performance sports turf, being essential not only to maintain the aesthetics but also to ensure the functionality and safety of the field throughout the year. Fertilization is a process that aims to supply the turf with the nutrients necessary for its development, especially after periods of heavy use. During the grass growth cycle, sports fields can suffer a significant loss of nutrients due to constant athlete traffic, soil compaction and even weather conditions. Therefore, applying fertilizers at the right time — taking into account the soil needs, weather conditions and the plant’s growth phase — helps to strengthen the roots, promote vigorous growth and balance soil nutrition. This results in a denser, more resistant and healthier turf, capable of withstanding the pressure of frequent games and training, maintaining its high performance.

On the other hand, pulverization is equally crucial, as it protects the field against pests, diseases and fungi that can compromise its integrity and, consequently, the quality of the game. Fungi such as mildew, brown spot and other bacterial infections can cause severe damage to plants, resulting in field failures and areas of weakened grass. Spraying specific fungicides and pesticides helps prevent these infections and control pests, ensuring that the field remains clean and healthy. Applying these products strategically and at the correct dosage not only protects the field but also helps reduce the need for more invasive treatments, such as replanting damaged areas. Pulverization can also be used to stimulate the growth of more uniform grass, acting directly on the health of the leaves and the balance of the field. When these two practices — fertilization and pulverization — are carried out in an integrated and well-planned manner, they promote a more balanced and safe field, capable of providing ideal conditions for athletes. A well-nourished, pest-free turf is essential to the safety, playability and aesthetics of any sports field, and these practices ensure that the turf continues to perform at its highest level regardless of weather conditions or heavy use.

WHEN TO DO?

Seasonal fertilization and pulverization should be carried out strategically throughout the year, taking into account grass growth cycles, weather conditions and the intensity of field use.

FERTILIZATION

FALL

During the fall, it is important to apply fertilizer to help strengthen the roots and prepare the field for the colder winter conditions. This will ensure that the field has a good nutrient base to survive the slower growing season.

WINTER

Fertilization is usually minimal during the winter, since grass growth is slower. However, light fertilization with a potassium focus can help strengthen the field during the cold season.

SPRING

Fertilizing in the spring is one of the most important, as this is when your field begins its active growth cycle. Applying fertilizers with a high concentration of nitrogen will help stimulate growth and recovery of your field after the winter.

SUMMER

Fields requires more maintenance and nutritional support during the summer. Fertilization should be done more sparingly, focusing on nutrient balance and avoiding soil overload.

PULVERIZATION

FALL

Fall is the ideal time to carry out preventive pulverization to control pests that may be proliferating and fungi that can affect the field after the high temperature season. It is also important to strengthen the field's resilience before winter arrives.

WINTER

Winter pulverization is generally limited, as cold temperatures slow pest and disease activity. However, if there is a history of fungal disease problems or persistent pests, preventative pulverization may be performed.

SPRING

Spring is a season of great growth and activity for fields, making it a critical time for disease and pest control. Preventative service with fungicides and pesticides is recommended to prevent the growth of fungi and other infections common at this time of year.

SUMMER

During the summer, heat and humidity can encourage the appearance of pests and fungi. It is important to maintain continuous control, applying preventive and curative treatments as necessary, especially after heavy rains or when there is a greater presence of pests.
